In December 1959, a competition was launched for groups of Airmen to build a Bar in their Billets for use over the Christmas holiday period.  The builders of the most original and decorative bar were to receive the first prize.  Judging was to be carried out by the CO and his Adjutant.  Looking back this was a very astute move by these two officers who, naturally, would be offered a drink at each bar they visited to make a judgement.  This picture shows the CO, Wing Commander Ieuan Thomas and his Adjutant outside one of the Billets just before Christmas wishing the lads from the “Aerial Erectors’ Section” a Very Happy Christmas.   Wing Commander Thomas, in the centre of the picture behind the table, was CO of RAF Gan from April 1959 to April 1960.
